This New Western Digital 2TB USB External Hard Drives is fantastic in that it is quite small, doesn't require external power, and it is quite good looking. It is amazing how they fit 2 TB USB drive in such a small package. One bonus is that when I replace my computer in future with one that has USB 3.0 interface, this drive can handle that. Overall WD 2TB External Hard Drive working fine.

Overall I am pleased with the drive. I have used it to backup 4 different laptops and it worked flawlessly on XP, Vista, and Win 7. I did not realize when I bought the system that it does not backup your system files with the included software, but only your e-mail, docs, pictures, videos, etc.
Plenty of room on the drive to do that, but the software does not provide that option. I was able to manually copy files to the drive outside of the backup software, so it is probably possible to do a full system backup with different software

Received the product quickly and it installed just as it should. Currently working fine.
This drive is 2TB USB External Hard Drives in size and once the USB 3.0 PCIe controller is installed it works as fast as my USB External Hard Drives. Can't believe the great perform and the extra portability though many systems don't have USB 3.0 support yet.
The drive has a small white light on the front which lights to indicate activity and blinks slowly when the drive powers itself down due to lack of use. The case feels sturdy internally, but the sides are a thinner plastic and the top, bottom and rear have a plastic grill fdor air flow. I do not see a fan inside nor do I hear one but the drive only heats up a little whne running full steam. I have used it to backup my WD 2TB USB External Hard Drives RAID 0 array and after the backup was complete (about 567 GB) the top of the case was about 95 degrees or so. Not really hot just warm to the touch. Normally the top of the case is room temperature.
Overall I think this drives makes a great storage media and though lacking it does support both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 so it is set for the future.

My company was recently hacked. Luckily we had tape backups. I purchased 2 of these drives to get images of our servers (7 in all) for any investigation (if necessary) and was able to get everything on both of these drives in just a few hours, restore our data from our tapes and get everything back online just in time for Monday morning. I have a feeling I will be upgrading my tape solution to an online data backup with these drives because of their speed in recovery and storage capacity.
I already recommended this drive to my friends and he went out and got one to backup his personal home computer. He was able to get his entire hard drive backed up and had no trouble with getting it setup.
I used 2TB USB External Hard Drives this drive to hook up to my Dish Vip211k box to make it a DVR. Went very smoothly, called dish, they activated whatever code on the account to make it possible, I hooked the hard drive up to the receiver, it formatted it for about 5 minutes, and that was it. Roughly 99 hours of HD recording space available, and 397 hours of standard. The best part is, I can't even hear this drive at all, even with my ear next to it, unlike the stock DVR's from Dish which you can hear from across the room. Very happy with this 2TB USB External Hard Drives purchase so far.

I brought this external hard disk for $ 128. This product was easy to install and faster than i expected. Overall, very nice product for a decent price. If you are looking for an ext hard drive, don't hesitate to buy this product. Great for backing up pc and viewing media with PS3. Have to convert to FAT32 to use with PS3, no big deal, easy to do. I've dropped it a few times moving it between computers and game systems but it still works perfectly fine. L.Gbur I've had this drive over a month and it has performed very well. It's a great value for the money.

Great 1TB External Hard Drive
1TB External Hard Drive So small, yet so big in storage Very fast data transfer and what more anyone requires in such a small size and low price great stuff. A cable is included in the box and it's ready to go. I was using it in just a few minutes. I'm looking forward to at least 2 years of productive backups on the go with this excellent product. How can 1TB External Hard Drive be in such a small devise? I'm not sure, but it's there. And it's great that it runs off of USB power, it doesn't require a separate power source like other external hard-drives. Plugged it in to my Mac, started loading it up with pictures, movies and songs and performance was great. This is what plug and play was meant to be.
High capacity in a slick looking little external hard drive
I can remember when I was impressed by a 356 MB hard drive on my new computer. (Remember those days?) Now here's this back-up external drive that is a terabyte, something that not so many years ago was in the domain only of supercomputers that took up whole rooms. The really impressive thing is that this is such a nice compact little drive, not much bigger than a deck of playing cards. I've used other drives for back up and have always avoided the back up software that came with some of them, fearing it would get in the way and slow things down when I'm working or that it would take too much time to figure out what to back up and how often to do so. As a result, I often forget to back things up, which could be a disaster if I ever had a hard drive failure.
Now the nice thing about a large external drive such as this one is that it has tons of space and I can just back up everything and keep several copies. The software that comes on the drive installs in minutes and checks for updates for both software and firmware. It gives you a choice of what to back up and the choice of pausing backups when you're working, so you don't have to worry about it getting in your way when you're doing something else. It was simple to enter password protection and comes with a manual on the drive that's easy to understand, as manuals go. You can also choose how many backups to keep at a time and where you'd like those stored. The settings are simple to set up, even partitioning the drive if you decide to do so.
I've used it for a few weeks now and hardly notice it being there. It just does its thing in the background and I can check the backups so I know they're there. Using Windows XP, it puts a little icon down in the menu bar where I can check at any time to see how much space has been used, whether or not it is locked and if the temperature is OK. Unlike some drives I've used in the past, this one seems to run pretty cool and I've never felt it being warm, even when the summer temperatures in the room were warm. I like that it's so small, yet has such high capacity. I'm using a 2.0 interface but it's nice to know it has the 3.0 capability for future use with perhaps a different computer. Two thumbs up for this external hard drive.

The backup software resides on the hard disk of the drive. I didn't bother installing that software. I just want to use the drive as plain old storage drive. I connected the drive to a PC with Windows 7, the OS complained with "WD SES Device USB Device – No Driver Found", but showed the drive contents anyway. I could immediately use the drive without haveing to do anything.
Drive properties showed the following:
Used 565 MB
Free 930 GB
Capacity 931 GB
I have split the 1 TB drive into 3 partitions easily (using Win7's built-in tools). I copied a bunch of JPG files into one of the partitions. Everything went smoothly. I am yet to find any issues with the device.
I will update this review if I come across anything significant as I continue to use it.
